APE Charity offers free non-surgical neutering of male dogs

Zeuterathon slated for Jan.18 in Ames

Owners of male dogs can have them altered at no charge at a one day Zeuterathon Saturday, Jan. 18, in Ames. The event is sponsored by Animal Protection and Education (APE) Charity of Paton and Ark Charities, with help from the Iowa State University Pre-Vet Club.

According to Linn Price, LVT, Zeutering is a non-surgical, non-invasive method of sterilization. The procedure is safe, permanent, FDA approved and cost effective. The procedure typically takes about an hour and dogs are able to return home after a brief recovery. There is minimal pain or discomfort.

Dogs older than 3 months that weigh 60 pounds or less are eligible. All dogs will be screened to ensure the non-surgical neutering procedure is appropriate for them.

The Zeuterathon will also provide rabies and distemper vaccines and a microchip identification as part of the grant package. The grant funding will cover up to 100 dogs. There is no charge, but free will donations will be gratefully accepted.

More information about the event is available at the APE website, www.GoAPE.info. Appointments can be made at www.APE.CheckAppointments.com, or by leaving a voice message at 515-460-7729. Information about Zeutering is available on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLktosN7n6A.
